New Delhi: After the announcement of five teams of BCCI’s Women’s Premier League (WPL), women cricketers from abroad have termed it as a historic day. She says that this will have a huge impact on women’s sports all over the world. The BCCI earned Rs 4,669.99 crore from the sale of the first five WPL teams, while Adani Sportsline spent the most, Rs 1,289 crore, for the Ahmedabad team.

IPL team owners Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals made successful bids for Rs 912.99 crore, Rs 901 crore and Rs 810 crore respectively. Australia’s fast bowler Megan Shutt wrote that it is fantastic not only for women’s cricket but for women’s sports around the world. Frances McKay of New Zealand wrote, ‘A huge day for women’s cricket. Look at this number. Can’t wait for the Women’s Premier League.

England fast bowler Kate Cross has a message for those who have undermined the women’s game in the past. “BCI has recognized something special and this will give women cricketers the platform they deserve,” she said. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp, England’s Danielle Watt and Australian Holly Furling have said the women’s league will be ‘life-changing’.
