In his book ‘Never Give An Inch: Fighting for America I Love’, available in the market from Tuesday, Pompeo described India as a ‘wild card’ (sudden entrant) in the Quad because it is a nation founded on the ideology of socialism and has Neither the US nor the then USSR supported the Cold War. Pompeo wrote in his book, ‘This country (India) has forged its own path without any real alliance system and largely remains so, but due to China’s moves, India has changed its strategic position in the last few years. The attitude has changed.
Quad is made to deal with China’s aggressive behavior
Pompeo (59) explained how the administration of former US President Donald Trump was successful in getting India included in the Quad group. The US, Japan, India and Australia formed the Quad to deal with China’s aggressive behavior in the resource-rich Indo-Pacific region. Pompeo wrote, ‘China has forged a close partnership with India’s arch-rival Pakistan through its Belt and Road Initiative.’
He said, ‘Chinese forces killed 20 Indian soldiers in border skirmishes in June 2020. Because of that incident, the Indian public demanded a change in their country’s relations with China. Pompeo said, ‘India responded by banning Tiktok and dozens of Chinese apps. Meanwhile, a Chinese virus was killing millions of Indian citizens. I am sometimes asked why India has moved away from China and I give a straight answer that I hear from the Indian leadership: Don’t you? Times are changing and creating an opportunity for us to innovate and bring America and India closer than ever before.’
Shinzo Abe Leader of Extraordinary Courage
In his book, Pompeo described former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as a global leader of extraordinary courage and vision. He has also praised former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison for showing courage and standing up against Chinese aggression. Earlier, Pompeo had made a big claim regarding nuclear war between India and Pakistan.
