Free Root beer floats and city services are set for St. George’s ‘birthday’

Members of the St. George City Council and other city officials serve up root beer floats last January during the city's 160th "birthday" celebration inside the Social Hall next door to city hall. This year's event is scheduled for Jan. 28.

Former Mayor Dan McArtMayor hur was mayor for twenty years, 1992-2012. He started the tradition while he was mayor, stating that it was fun to give out root beer floats. He The soda and ice cream were purchased and the loudspeaker systems in local grocery stores were used to invite the shoppers to the celebration.

“It’s something my wife and I started. We thought, why don’t we celebrate it,” He said.

  • Free SunTran buses provide rides every day.
  • Free Rides on the train Thunder Junction park, 1851 S. Dixie Drive.
  • Free Rides on the St. George Carousel, 100 W. Tabernacle St.
